Being an Emotionally Intelligent Leader Requires These 4 Attributes

Not long ago we wrote about needing top performers in your business. While this continues to be true today, it’s even more important for you to be an emotionally intelligent leader. You’ve searched high and low to form a great team; now you must lead them well. Here are some tips to help you be the leader your team needs.

Be Self-Aware.

Most people think that being self-aware comes with being emotionally intelligent. However, there’s more to it than just being knowledgeable of the latest trends. You need to be aware of your emotions, reactions, and tendencies, and effectively manage them so that your team has a strong leader who is not afraid to show their human side. Treat your team like you want them to treat your clients and customers.

Be Level-Headed and In Control of your Emotions.

Never let them see you sweat. Well, not quite. Show your passion and dedication by working hard right alongside your team. Stay in control when things get out of your control. It will happen, so be prepared to be passionate with composure. Don’t let anger or frustration get out of control and affect your team or your business.

Be Connected to your Team, Lean in, and Actively Listen.

Stay in tune with your team and what’s happening in their lives. Take time to ask questions about their role and learn from their experiences and expertise. Actively listen to their problems, solutions, and ideas. Include them in strategic planning and the implementation of new ideas and then share the rewards with them. You will be amazed at how this helps to create loyal team members who want to see you succeed.

Be Truthful and Transparent.

Always be open, truthful, and transparent. Be honest about what you need and expect from your team. Let them know where you are vulnerable and need them to step in and support you. Recognize your mistakes, fix them and move on. Confront conflict right away and find a solution that helps and doesn’t harm.

When leaders step up and lead, their team will respect, trust, and follow them.

If you are ready to add emotionally intelligent people to your team, let us know. It’s our job to find them for you so that you can focus on being a better leader.
